Favorite Makeup Products as of April 2016

If you've been following this blog for a while then chances are that you have seen me rave about products I love to use. But for some reason I have never done a post discussing my favorites and staples. Although I have a lot of favorite products, I narrowed it down to these.

I apologize for the bit of wash out in the pictures, we just got new lighting in my living room and I'm still experimenting with it, trying to figure out the perfect spot/position to take my review photos.

Concealer - Nyx HD Concealer & Benefit Fakeup

I use the shade Porcelain as well as the color correcting shades Yellow and Green. These concealers are pigmented and really creamy. They blend well and have a really good range of colors. This is the one concealer I have uses that matches my skin tone. Whenever I use the Porcelain one over the yellow under my eyes it really seems to brighten them.

This is Fakeup in the shade light. It is an under eye concealer, when it came out a few years ago there was a lot of hype but since I have hardly hears much about it. A little goes a long way; this is a concealer surrounded by a solid moisturizer in a metal tube to soothe the under eye area. It gas a slight yellow tone to cancel out dark circles and it covers really well.

Face Primer - Smashbox Photofinish Primer

The cult classic! It fills pores like no other and creates a wonderfully smooth surface.

Foundation - Urban Decay Naked Skin

In the shade .5. Although this doesn't have the fullest coverage ( it is buildable however), it makes my skin look amazing! It gives me such a glow like no other foundation I have used. I appreciate that the pump dispenses a little at a time so product isn't wasted. It lasts all day and is very light weight.

Blush - Etude House Sweet Recipe All Over Color, Milani Rose blush and Nars blush

The Etude House All Over Color in Strawberry Chiffon Cake. It is a cream to powder product that can be used as an eye-shadow, lipstick or blush. I use it as a blush; although it looks daunting in the tin it actually can apply sheerly and product can be built up. This is my go to blush when I can't decide which one to wear.

Milani rose blush in Tea Rose. This blush is almost too pretty to touch! It is a beautiful natural rose color. It is extremely pigmented though so it is easy to over apply. This is a matte blush and look at how much product you get!

Nars Orgasm blush - yup the cult classic with the dirty name. It truly lives up to the hype. It lasts and glides on nicely. A little goes a long way. This color is flattering on every skin tone, this is the first I recommend to friends looking to start wearing blush.

Eyeliners - Rimmel Scandal Eyes Liquid Eyeliner Pens & Urban Decay 24/7 liner

I have had these liquid liner pens for an embarrassing amount of time and they haven't dried up! I love liquid liner pens but they tend to dry up quickly - not these! They apply very well and are waterproof; they last all day!

Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Onyx - I love using this liner outside my waterline. It is very black so I tend to smudge it with a qtip to make it less harsh and set with a black eye-shadow.

Brow Filler - Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow

In the shade Taupe. My eyebrows are so hard to find a color for. Between my hair being an odd light shade of brown and having very fair skin brow fillers tend to look too dark on me. Not only is this shade perfect for me, but it lasts all day. You only need a tiny bit of product, once you learn to use it it is a wonderful product.

Mascara - Lashes and Cosmetics Mascara Sampler & Bare Minerals Locked & Coated

I have been reaching for these mascaras and layering them so much. They really make a difference in my lashes; I especially love layering the thickening and volumizing ones.

This is a clear waterproof topcoat for mascara. No matter what mascara I use, I have such issues with it running even if it is a waterproof one. When I apply this top coat, however it locks in my mascara and keeps it in place.

Powder - Elf Mineral Booster

Though it looks like it applies with color in the jar, it applies sheerily. I love how this powder feels! It is very soft and lightweight. It blends very nicely without feeling or looking cakey. It is perfect for setting my foundation.

Contour - Elf  Cool Bronzer

This is as matte bronzer palette. I use this for contouring and the white for highlighting. The colors aren't too orangey and really make for a great contour.

Eyeshadow Primer - Urban Decay Primer Potion

I use the shade Eden or Original! It makes my eye-shadow stay like no other primer and creates a great smooth base.

Highlighter - Benefit High Beam, Physician's Formula Shimmer Brick and Manic Panic Dreamtone foundation

High beam is a wonderful dewy luminizing highlighter. It is creamy, blends well and lasts all day.

This Physicians Formula product can be used as blush, eye-shadow, highlighter and bronzer. I only use the top two rows for as highlighter, it gives my skin such a beautiful bright glow. It isn't pigmented enough to use as eye-shadow and I don't bother with the bronzer rows.

I purchased this Manic Panic Dreamtone foundation in Virgin to use to lighten foundations that were too dark to match my skin. I found that this makes a wonderful matte highlight to use when contouring! This is an absolute staple in my collection. It is creamy and pigmented; it feels lovely on my skin.

This is a wonderful alternative to those horrid grease paints if you need whiter skin for Halloween. It doesn't make your face a stark white or chalky looking. It actually will gradually pale your skin with each layer and looks very natural if blended well.

Eyeshadow - Urban Decay Naked 3, Colour Pop Eyeshadows

Urban Decay's naked palettes are my go to eyeshsdows; Naked 3 is my favorite.

I freaking LOVE these shadows! I only own two but I'm dying to own more! This one is Game Face; it is a beautiful rich metallic copper color. It makes my blue eyes really pop. The shadows feel like satin, so soft and blend like butter. It is easiest to tap onto the lid with your finger and then blend with a fluffy brush.

Setting Spray - Urban Decay All Nighter, Elf Mist & Set

All Nighter is my go to setting spray for locking in my look to last all day.

Mist & Set I just use to set my makeup and blend it together; not necessarily to make it last. I like to spray some onto a foundation brush and buff it in over freshly applied foundation. It gets rid of any application streaks and seamlessly  airbrushes it all together.

Lipstick - Lime Crime Velvetines

These are !y all time favorite lipsticks! They go on like a gloss but dry very matte, but don't dry out my lips. They make a wide range of colors; I also find out of any lipstick these always outlast the competition. They last through food, water and even kissing. These babies really stick! Above are my three favorite shades - Red Velvet, Pink Velvet and Utopia.

Lipstick Primer - Colour Pop Lippie Stix Primer

This is the best lip primer I have used - I love it even more than Too Faced's lip primer. Not only will it prep your lips and extend the wear of any lipstick, but it is moisturizing as well.

Bonus:

Eye Cream - Mary Kay Indulge Soothe Eye Gel

I always apply this all over my eyes before makeup. It really helps to prep and moisturize the skin.

Prep Spray - Lush Eau Roma Water

I like to use a mist before makeup to prep my skin and help to moisturize it. This one is my favorite; it's so refreshing and does moisturize as it contains lavender asmd rose water.

Moisturizer - Instanatural Hydra Gel Cream

This us my favorite moisturizer! It is like pure water melting into my skin, it moisturizer it so well without leaving residue. It makes my skin so soft, smooth and moisturized.

Lip Balm - My own!

I make my own lip balm! It is the best I have ever used and it doesn't have alcohol or any harmful ingredients that dry your lips out and force your lips to become addicted to it.

False Eyelashes - EBay!

These days I buy most of my eyelashes on eBay. Depending on which you get, they can be as good quality as the lashes at drugstores and beauty supply stores, but way cheaper!

Sunscreen - Neutrogena

SPF is really important to use!! When my moisturizer or foundation doesn't have SPF I apply this under my moisturizer. It is lightweight sand non sticky. It dries clear, doesn't cvlog my pores or make my skin feel gross.

There you go! What are your favorite products? Any on my list that you use or want to try? Comment and let me know!

How To Fuck Up Cake Pops

(You all can thank Vicky for the wonderful blog post title)

Hello my dears! Who else has a case of the Mondays? I sure do, I'm tired as hell!! I feel like my eyes look likes Levi's from Attack on Titan :P. It isn't easy to write something when you're yawning every 10 minutes, that's for sure! I totally need a good, strong cup of tea. I've been doing SO much writing lately between this blog, the book I've been working so hard at and a possible short story. And I am loving it! It just feels so right and wonderful to get back into writing.

Anyway moving on, I had yet another busy but mostly fun week last week ^_^. So I thought I'd fill you all in on it!

On Thursday I went to the mall with my good friend Amanda. We hadn't hung out in soo long so it was very nice to see each other again and catch up!

The fountain at the mall

First we went to the beauty supply store because Amanda was looking for a specific nail polish. I had a lovely conversation with the woman at the register. She was wearing a cameo choker that was beautiful! I was also wearing my skeleton lady cameo. I'm obsessed with cameos. She told me that a woman her boyfriend worked with made jewelry and when she died she was given a bag of cameos and such from her. I love jewelry with a story, they truly are the best pieces.

Second we went back to Lush, because I was still fuming about not being able to get a mask the previous week. Lo and behold....they were sold out of the new rose mask I so badly wanted and would not be getting more until the next day. However they DID have some masks including one that I really do like, BB Seaweed so I cashed in my pots via their recycling program and got a free mask!

From there I was super tempted by some products but didn't have the money to buy them. I was talking to one of the sales girls in Lush about how I'm obsessed with anything rose scented and she showed me their Jason and the Argan Oil shampoo bar. It was love at first sniff *^* I must go back and buy it when I can. I've actually been dying to try one of their shampoo bars ever since I heard Grav3yardgirl (my favorite youtuber) rave about them in several of her videos.

They also had one called Lullabye that I loved, it smelled like Lavender. The name also makes me think of Fairy Tail. Their Eau Roma Water toner spray was enticing me like crazy, it was so refreshing and smelled wonderful. Definitely another item to add to my wishlist. I got some more samples at Lush. The wonderful girls working there kept complimenting my makeup and were in love with the lipstick I wore.

We then went to Hot Topic, I spent forever going back and forth looking at things. I felt so bad doing that to Amanda! I found the bin of random hair bows that I looked through during my last mall trip and freaked the fuck out. Why? I found this:

Yes, a hair bow of my favorite band of all time, My Chemical Romance. I didn't care how much it was I was not leaving the store without it!!! They still had their buy 1 get 1 half off sale so I got this cute hair bow as well. I am loving florals lately!

I was cracking up over this Titan sweatshirt that they had.

We then went to Kiko Milano to look at their products. Now that I looked at their products more I was pretty impressed by the selection. They even carry a skincare line. One of the sales women working there walked up to me and started a conversation. She also said that my makeup was amazing and that I should totally work there!! I love when I get tons of compliments on my makeup, it really boosts my confidence in my craft.

This was the makeup I had on Thursday:

I am loving this new hairstyle, it's pretty kawaii if I do say so myself *^*. I used the following products:

  • Mehron Skin Prep (This is a pre-makeup toner with antiperspirant properties. I've been using it lately because in the summer when it's super hot my makeup always seems to melt a bit. It does leave my skin dry as all hell but it's better once I put a moisturizer over it)
  • Makeup Forever Primer #0
  • Holika Holika  Essential Petit BB Cream (The orange tube)
  • Maybelline Fit Me Powder #110 Porcelain
  • Nyx HD concealer on Porecelain
  • Anatastia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Taupe
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden
  • Urban Decay Naked Palette
  • Maybelline Eyestudio Gel Liner, Blackest Black
  • Too Faced LashGasm Mascara
  • Bare Minerals Locked & Coated Waterproof mascara Top Coat
  • Urban Decay 25/7 Glide On Pencil in Perversion
  • Etude House All Over Color in Strawberry Chiffon Cake
  • Physicians Formula Natural Nude Highlighter
  • Sorme Eyeshadow/Blush shade from my work kit as a contour
  • Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil  in Cruella

We browsed in Vera Bradley since Amanda loves their things. I'm not a huge fan of the designer but they did actually have some cute bags in the store.

From there we went to Sephora. Amanda is a makeup beginner so we walked around and I showed her various products explaining what they do. I cringed so hard and wanted to cry when I saw a group of young teenage girls (they looked about 13) doing their makeup with testers. I watched one girl apply a lipstick directly from the tube and then apply eyeliner directly from her eye. NEVER apply lipstick OR anything around the eye area from a tester in a store. Do you know how much bacteria collects on them? The staff really doesn't sanitize them. That's how you get herpes or eye infections. I wanted to say something...but didn't because they were a bratty little bunch and always in the way when I was trying to look at something. Ladies, don't leave your children to run around Sephora. It's annoying. Can you guys tell I have no patience for children?

Anyway, rant over. I next brought Amanda to the skincare section. I bring EVERYONE to the skincare section because I believe all of my friends should practice good skincare as long as I'm around. It's best to begin in your early 20s-25 at the latest. If you start taking care of your skin early, it won't age so much as you get older.

We went to get a Glam Glow mask sample for Amanda to try which lead to a conversation with the skincare consultant. She recommended a bunch of products to Amanda and have her samples. She was such a sweetheart!! She gave me some very generous samples of some face masks. We were discussing how I have started to use and am obsessed with rose products because they're super hydrating to my dry skin and they smell so good *^*. She then showed me a wonderful rose toner and gave me two samples of it! This lady definitely knew what she was talking about. She had us guess her age, she looked to be in her 40s but she was in her 60s and her skin was beautiful!!

I got samples of Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask, Fresh Rose Face Mask and Fresh Rose Floral Toner. The cucumber mask is the only one I have been able to try so far and it is AMAZING!! It hydrated my skin like no other. The Fresh Rose toner smells freaking amazing too!

I also got a sample of Kat Von D's Lock It Foundation. But the guy that gave me the sample gave me the wrong shade ><. I really wanted to try to newly brought back shade 42 which is their shade for Snow White's like myself.

After Sephora we went to the food court and chilled for a bit. I got an iced tea from Dunkin Donuts and they made it right for once!!!! The mall Dunkin messes it up from time to time X___X. It's really not hard to add the correct amount of sugar and lemon.  Lastly, we went to Icing which is Claire's for adults. We found really cute sunglasses and decided to take pictures in them.

We gossiped and talked about various things on the way back to my house. Unfortunately I became very car sick and nearly threw up in her car X__X. I got dehydrated and overheated, which left me feeling sick for most of the night. I was alright for most of the day on Friday, but I started feeling sick again when I got home. Fall needs to get here...I'm so tired of the heat and of the heat making me sick.

On Friday Vicky and I had her birthday adventure!!! Her birthday is August 31, but she'll be away at school then :(. By the way, you guys can follow her on twitter at Twitter.com/Vicky_Mellark94. You totally should because she's awesome and loves Marvel, Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. And because I said so. Seriously...follow her and be friends :D. I'm trying to get her to make online friends and be on twitter more!

For her birthday adventure, she decided that she wanted us to make cake pops together. So we went to Wal-Mart to get the supplies. I got her vanilla cake mix, orange colored candy melts, vanilla frosting and lollipop sticks. We got orange candy melts because orange is one of her favorite colors.

By the time we finally were able to start making the cake pops, it was about 3 PM!!! We had a late start and a late lunch. But we started by making the cake (I made it so, you know it was super awesome).

While we waited for the cake to bake, we played Disney Trivial Pursuit. Every time we had a question to answer, I played the music from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. It was hysterical!!!! Vicky won the game but I was so close to winning.

One of our mistakes was not waiting until the cake had 100% cooled down to crumble it. But we were impatient, we wanted to make the cake pops!! So we crumbled it when it was still a bit warm. The 2nd way we fucked up these cake pops: I added too much frosting and made the pops too soft.

Check out our balls! Hehehehehe xD

From there we formed the balls and chilled them. Once cool we took the sticks and dipped them in some of the melted chocolate then chilled them more.

The chocolate didn't melt right and then it got overheated and burned a bit. The cake balls kept falling apart in the chocolate so we tried to just drop chocolate on top with a spoon.

And then we ran out.

Ta-da!!! That's how you fuck up cake pops!! It was a lot of fun to make them even though we messed them up so bad. They were good but ohmyfuckinggod the sugar!!! It was such a fun day and I'm glad we got to do something together for Vicky's birthday. I also got her a beautiful rose quartz necklace, I'm thinking of getting one to match ❤.

Anyway, that was the excitement of my week. I'll probably be a bit busy again this week because my new bed is supposed to be delivered on Wednesday and I have a lot to do in preparation for that. Finally, my 10+ year old broken bed that murders my back is bring replaced ;_____; I'm so happy!

Hope you all have a wonderful day and don't succumb too badly to the monster known as Monday.
