September Adventure Time & Scream Queens

What's up my zombies?? Guess what?? IT'S FINALLY OFFICIALLY AUTUMN!!!

Hehe I'm so punny...because you know, my cat's name is Autumn.

But seriously, I'm so excited for the fall. It's beginning to get cooler here and every day I notice more and more leaves starting to change. It's crazy that it's nearly October and not even half of the trees in my yard have started to change.

The view looking down my street from the end of my driveway.

The crap apple tree in my yard. Oh how I wish these apples were edible, I'm dying to go apple picking.

The only thing I'm not excited about is the fact that I won't have an air conditioner to block out my tinnitus. Yeah...I have tinnitus (a constant, never ending ringing in my ear) as a result of some illness from early this year. It's quite frightening that I may have to deal with it for the rest of my life, and I'm only 22 years old. Shit happens.

Alright, Heather stop rambling and get to the point! Since I know some of you like hearing about my adventures, I thought I'd talk about my adventures from Tuesday! I had an absolutely wonderful day! And a few wonderfully strange coincidences. I'm convinced that the good karma from my Wiccan practices lately came back to me and payed off. It was all exactly what I've needed. I've had so many things on my mind lately and so many things happening at home, that it felt good to finally unwind and not think about it for the day. It was also nice to get some exercise.

I spent the whole day with one of my dear friends, Beckman. We went to the mall and some other places. We literally walked around all day, I ended up with a blister from all of the walking and the shoes I wore. It was worth it though!

We started our day by visiting my mom at the store she works at. She called one of her coworkers over to meet me. This man absolutely made my day. The first thing out of his mouth was "Oh my god she's so beautiful" to my mom. And he kept saying "You're so beautiful, wow" to me. The flattery totally made my day, I rarely get comments like this in public.

For those curious, here's my makeup from that day. Ignore the slightly irritated facial expression. I'm like facially challenged when I take pictures xD, I have no idea why.

I wore all of this, along with my Sword Art Online T-shirt and capris.

I swapped the crescent moon hair clip in the picture above for my My Chemical Romance bow. I layered my Opal crystal, my pentagram and my long chained clear crystal. I wore rose quartz earrings and my purple gem bat wing earrings.

We went to the mall and went to the usual stores. We went to Spencer's and they had some fucking creepy masks O__O...Beckman is wearing the horse one:

I'm wearing the creepy anime one. I look like cousin It gone kawaii.

I saw a beautiful Ouija board necklace at Spencer's but didn't have enough to get it. I have been wanting one so badly, so I've been on the lookout for them. We then went to Hot Topic and I looked for the one I passed over the last few times I went there because of the price; it was gone. We then looked through the clearance section and I told Beckman that it would be pretty awesome if I were to find that necklace in the clearance section somehow. As we waded through the bins, literally a minute later I found the necklace and it was marked down to a price I could afford!! It was insane! I totally feel like it was one of those coincidences where the universe was rewarding me.

My lovely necklace. It's a cameo too!! *^* I'm completely obsessed with cameos.

They had nail polishes buy 1 get 1 free so Beckman bought one and let me get the free one. I chose this:

We went to Lush and I got to check out their new fall products. They have a wonderful new coconut hand scrub and a bubblegum scented shower gel called comforter....I so wanted it! And of course they were totally out of face masks so I couldn't try the new rose face mask ;__; this is the fucking 3rd time that I've had this happen!! UGHHH!

Beckman and I were discussing some things about Wicca as I was explaining what I've been up to lately and one of the Lush workers casually listened in. She found it really fascinating and I love finding open minded people like that! So I explained a few things to them and about the book of shadows that I'm working on. Honestly, I don't think that I'm going to do a full separate post on Wicca and my beliefs. If you are interested though, I can still write one and just email you it. All you have to do is ask my dears!

We went to Yankee Candle and Bath and Body Works and it was pumpkin spice everything!! I'm not a huge fan of pumpkin scented/flavored things. I much prefer apple. But I was happy to see all of their fall and Halloween products, as I never get to go to the mall in the fall. We then went to Sephora and got some skincare products to try and got Beckman some skincare advice.

After the mall we headed back to our hometown and went to Homegoods. The 2nd strangest thing happened. I was convinced that they wouldn't have any tea cups left. We went to the clearance section and they had the exact tea cup I was eyeing the last time I went...marked down even cheaper!! It was $3.50 and I literally had $3 and change left. It was insane!

Homegoods has the most beautiful Halloween decor too.

We then went to Walmart and like the typical white girls in my redneck town we took selfies in the store xD. There isn't really all that much to do here so teenagers  (and sometimes us young adults) usually go to random stores and fuck around in them or in the parking lots.

We had fun playing around with the Halloween costumes. Beckman put on this creepy mask

I think the furries are taking over. I swear I saw animal related costumes like this everywhere!

And I tried on this beautiful witch's hat. Oh how I wanted it!

We then went to the liquor store and I saw this! Game of Thrones liquor yaaay!

The bottle was absolutely stunning, it looked like it belonged in the show. It was closed with a cork that had a cap on top of it with the stark sigil. This was sealed with chains on the sides. It was also a pretty large bottle, not the size of a beer bottle. It's called Three Eyed Raven and it's a dark saison ale made by the Omme Gang brewery in Coppertown NY. I was surprised to find this in my town...especially this particular one when we have 4-5 different liquor stores. We didn't buy this but Beckman bought bought some Angry Orchard. The snotty lady at the counter carded us both even though I didn't buy anything because she thought we were teenagers. He let me have one of those to try.

I actually really liked it! I hate beer, so it was nice to find something similar to it that I enjoy. It's basically beer, but made with apples.

Later that night, I watched the Scream Queens premiere! I loved it so much! If you're watching purely for the horror, you're going to hate it. The horror is pretty cheesy. Some of the makeup was atrocious. I did expect better since Ryan Murphy, the creator of American Horror Story made this, I guess he wanted the makeup cheesy to add to the comedy. It is funny though! I found myself laughing my ass off quite a few times. It's wonderful as a dark comedy. I want to smack the shit out of Emma Roberts' character, Chanel because she was a huge snotty bitch! I love Jamie Lee Curtis' character of The Dean. Seriously she's the best!! I think she's the person behind the red devil mask. I laughed my ass off at some of the kills like the spray tan one. THAT was beautiful. I love Keke Palmer's character, Zayday. I'm pretty sure that Grace and Zayday, maybe even Hester and Chanel will survive the show. Zayday and Grace being the few of the girls that actually seem to have a brain. I really liked seeing Lea Michelle in a different role, it was hilarious to see her in a neck brace. Yes, I used to watch Glee. I totally related to her character Hester because if I accidentally killed someone I know I'd know how to dispose of the body.  I was very happy to see Ariana Grande be killed off, I can't stand her. I'm so happy we won't have to deal with her for the rest of the season. Yaaaaaay!! I can't wait for next week's episode.

Anyway, Tuesday was a wonderful day! I'm hoping to have another Halloween post this weekend or next week so keep an eye out! As usual, any ideas for my Halloween countdown that you'd love to see? Comment and let me know!

My Halloween Playlist

Hello my kawaii zombies! Hehe what better to call my readers than that? Next in my Halloween countdown series is this! I'm trying extremely hard to queue Halloween themed posts for you guys regularly.

Next to the horde of classical and JPop music I listen to, I favor lots of darker creepy styles of music as well. Metal, punk, Alternative, ect. From much of this music stems my favorite Halloween music. Because let's be real, the heavier side of music makes the best spooky stuff. But don't worry, not every song on here is heavy ^_^. Anyway, here are some of my favorite songs for the Halloween season. My playlist on my Itunes is entirely too huge to list everything.

Also - I created a separate Spotify account just for this blog so I can post playlists for you guys more easily! Sadly, Spotify doesn't have everything so if a song isn't on the playlist...there's good old youtube! Here is the one corresponding to this post, so you can listen to the songs as you read. If the embedded playlist isn't showing, you can listen at this link: http://open.spotify.com/user/kawaiizombieblog/playlist/4TPqKsW6u5IGp2UeZrEyU2 .

Any song by Nox Arcana

No, I refuse to list a single song from Nox Arcana. Because truly I love every single one of their songs, especially for Halloween. Nox Arcana is a duo of two composers, Joseph Vargo and William Piotrowski. They're my favorite composers next to Yuki Kajiura. They ambient, creepy horror themed orchestral music. It is the most unique music. Each album they release has a theme, they have done themes such as a haunted carnival (Carnival of Lost Souls), vampires (Transylvania), a haunted mansion (Darklore Manor), a haunted pirate ship (Phantom of the High Seas) and even the dark side of fairy tales (Grimm Tales) . My favorite album of their is Shadow of the Raven, an album based upon the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Being a huge Poe fan, I absolutely love it. They really captured the atmosphere of each story.

Their music I guarantee will frighten trick r treaters or make your party guests uneasy. I can't listen to their songs in a dark room. Yes me, the queen of creep. And even some songs on Phantom of the High Seas heavily creepy me out. I can not recommend them enough for your Halloween playlist. For this post, I included Haunted off of The Dark Tower album. Sadly Spotify doesn't have all of their albums ;____;

The Misits - Halloween

To me, this is the essential Halloween song. But really any song by The Misfits is great for Halloween. Like Astro Zombies, Dig Up Her Bones, Scream, Last Caress and Mommy Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight to name a few.

The Misfits are a horror punk band based in New Jersey. They formed in the 70s and have gone through various lineup changes and different singers. Glenn Danzig and Michale Graves being the best, though (Don't kill me!) Graves is my favorite.

Aiden - White Wedding

The original by Billy Idol is great for Halloween too, but Wil Francis, the lead singer of Aiden just makes it sound more sinister. Aiden has some other good songs for Halloween like Scavengers of the Damned, Cry Little Sister (Cover from the Lost Boys song) and We Sleep Forever (which was featured on the Dead Silence soundtrack and made a music video with clips from the movie). They also have a cover of Die Die My Darling by The Misfits

Bobby Boris Pickett - Monster Mash

This is another essential song for me. I have been listening to this song ever Halloween since I was a little kid. I have fond memories from elementary school, where every Halloween we would dress in our costumes and dance to this song in the cafeteria.

Spooky Scary Skeletons REMIX

The famed tumblr song! It's seriously perfect for Halloween. I have no idea who sings this but it reminds me of that band Steam Powered Giraffe.

Sleeping with Sirens - Dead Walker Texas Ranger

I became slightly obsessed with this song last Halloween season. I love Sleeping with Sirens and they came out with this song a few years ago specifically for Halloween. It's perfect and it captures that spooky horror movie

Escape the Fate - Zombie Dance

As this song entails - it is a zombie themed song. The music and the lyrics fit really well with the theme of Halloween. This is perfect for a zombie themed party or a Halloween masquerade.

Avenged Sevefold - A Little Piece of Heaven

This song is great, though warning definitely NOT for the young ones. It's a song about murder and necrophilia in the best way possible. It tells a story about zombie lovers. A man kills his girlfriend when she refuses his marriage proposal...and then he fucks her corpse and regrets killing her. So she comes back as a zombie and kills him. Then they get married and kill people. You know, typical love story. They also have an animated music video for this song. It is such an odd song and I love the theatrical stylization. Very Oingo Boingo.

The Birthday Massacre - Blue

This song doesn't immediately scream Halloween nor do the lyrics. The best possible way I can describe this song is by saying it's like Hello Kitty and a demon fighting for control of the song.

Calabrese - Ressurection

This is another horror punk band with a bunch of horror themed songs. This song captures the feel of the old creature feature movies.

The Creepshow - Zombies Ate Her Brain & Halloween

The Creepshow is a psychobilly band. What's psychobilly? A punk/rockabilly/jazz band that plays songs about horror related subjects. I love this band so much. Halloween is their cover of The Misfits song and it's just as wonderful.

Both of these songs are staples. Sadly Spotify doesn't have either one, so I added a different song to the Spotify playlist.

RHPS - Over At The Frankenstein Place

I just HAD to include a song from Rocky Horror! The Rocky Horror Picture show is my favorite movie. Over At The Frankenstein Place is a perfect song for Halloween. Also - this song is the reason why on pretty much every website I have a profile on, it says I live "Over at the Frankenstein Place".

This is Halloween - Marilyn Manson & Danny Elfman

This is a Halloween classic. I love the original from Nightmare Before Christmas

Fright Ranger - Oh Oh Sexy Vampire (Justin B Remix)

This song is pretty cheesy...but I happen to like the cheese! It's a cute, cheesy fun Halloween song.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban OST - Double Trouble

This is the song that the choir with the toads in the 3rd Harry Potter movie sings. The lyrics are taken from William Shakespeare's Macbeth, from the witches. As a Shakespeare fan and with Macbeth being  my favorite work of his, I love this song. And it totally is perfect for Halloween.

New Years Day - Tombstone

New Years Day is one of my favorite bands. They have a lot of horror themed and dark songs such as Last Great Love Story with lyrics such as "So take my hand, take my love, take my life. We'll dance with the ghosts with the souls of the night." And songs like Angel Eyes. But I chose this particular song for this list for a reason!

This song is like a perfect song for a slow dance on Halloween night. It's romantic and macabre at the same time with lyrics such as "Tie the knot, tie the noose. Here we lie in love in truth in a coffin built for two. When all that's left is skin and bones, I'll still have love for you".

Lola Blanc - Love Potion No 9

This is a cover of the classic song, I'm unsure of who originally sings it. I love this version though. It is a poppier version, it was used with one of my favorite makeup brands, Lime Crime when they released their Serpentine and Poisonberry lipsticks.

Rob Zombie - Living Dead Girl

Let's be real, pretty much any Rob Zombie song can be played for Halloween. He is a horror master in music as well as films. My favorites of his for Halloween are Living Dead Girl and Dragula.

Creature Feature - A Gorey Demise

Creature Feature is this goofy horror band. This is the only song of theirs that I'm familiar with. Mostly because this song is based upon Edward Gorey's work. Plus...my name is in it!! "H is for Heather who was sealed in a tomb" hmm...sounds fitting.

Get Scared - If Only She Knew Voodoo Like I Do & Setting Yourself Up For Sarcasm

I love Get Scared, especially their earlier work. These songs from their first EP are my favorite and do have a bit of a spooky feel to them. "Sarcasm" has lyrics like "You could be the corpse then I could be the killer. If I could be the devil, you would be the sinner."

Michael Jackson - Thriller

If Thriller isn't on your Halloween playlist, then your playlist sucks. This is a classic. It's fun, it embodies the spirit. And Vincent Price does the narration in it! The music video is badass, what's not to love??

There you go my dears! I tried to keep this from being too long but I think I failed hahaha. I even narrowed down this list from an even bigger one!! There are too many good songs to list! Though many of you probably don't have the same taste in music with me, I hope you were able to find a few gems to get you into the spirit!

I will leave you with a few honorable mentions:
Lauren O'Connell - House of the Rising Sun, Bowling For Soup - Lil' Red Riding Hood, Ghost Town - You're So Creepy and IAMX - Bernadette

Any sort of list or content you would like to see during my Halloween countdown?? Comment and let me know! Until next time!

Halloween Countdown: Heather's Top Halloween Movies

Hello my darlings! Though you probably didn't enjoy reading about my suffering, I hope you at least learned something from my last post.

YES! It is finally that time of year! I officially have begun decorating my home for Halloween. I can't wait until I'm feeling well enough to pull out the rest of my decorations. Though I don't need to decorate as much this year because a lot of my decorations got kept up from last year xD. Anyway, here is some of what I have out so far:

Taken from my Instagram

And I have these really cute leaf candles that I put in water to float around. I am loving them so much, they're so pretty that I'm afraid to light them!

Also taken from my Instagram
I'm hoping to continue to update and show you all my decorations as they go up. I know some of my online friends would die to come see my house around Halloween. Ahh fall, I love it so much *^*. It is my favorite season and of course I love Halloween so much. My favorite thing about living in New England is the fall leaves. It is absolutely beautiful here! I love the way my house looks when the leaves begin to fall, I have a large front yard and trees that surround my house so I have beautiful leaves everywhere. I just love fall so so much.

Fall, last year.

Fall is the one time of year I can totally be myself and not get treated like a freak or get odd looks when I go out. Even in April, I'll dress like it's Halloween. I just go all out spooky for October.

To kick off my celebration of this most wonderful spooky season on this blog, I thought I would discuss my list of essential Halloween movies. These are movies I absolutely HAVE to watch as Halloween draws near. Every September and October I have horror movie binge watching marathons. I watch a TON of movies, but this list are the top that I save for closer to Halloween.

I am hoping (though I promise nothing) to post a lot more often with Halloween themed posts from discussing costumes, to makeup tips to DIY decor and even recipes. It all depends on the time I have and if I remember to actually update. I will do my very best though, after all I am the creepy queen.

Anyway, here are my top 5 movies for Halloween. I'm sure I've discussed some of these before, but who cares.

Hocus Pocus

It's all a bunch of hocus pocus!!

I am a sucker for witch movies, after all I am one (I am a practitioner of Wicca. I consider myself a witch and I have a coven.  Maybe I'll do a post on this if anyone is interested but I've honestly been a bit afraid to do a post about it all). I have been watching Hocus Pocus ever since I was a little kid. I've always wanted a black flame candle as well, though I wouldn't care if the Sanderson sisters showed up. I'd love to hang with them. Hocus Pocus is really the ultimate Halloween film that people of any age can watch. It takes place on Halloween. It has witches, zombies, ghosts and a talking black cat. Plus the beautiful scenery. It really is perfection. I find myself watching this movie many times during the season.

Trick r Treat

One of my favorite horror movies. Trick r Treat is an anthology horror film with a bunch of intertwining stories revolving around Halloween. It is the ultimate Halloween film and has everything. It truly captures the spirit of Halloween. And literally has the spirit of Halloween, this cute little nugget named Sam...who murders people.

I would hug him...if he wasn't going to stab me with his lollipop.

A sequel has been in the works for several years now and I absolutely can not wait for it! The creator of Trick r Treat is coming out with the movie Krampus, which is supposed to be a holiday horror film about the famed Krampus. I can't wait to see that one either.

Halloween - Rob Zombie's and the original

I love both the original Halloween and Rob Zombie's remake. The original is a classic. Nothing can beat the classics. For those that live under a rock, Halloween is about Michael Myers who killed his family as a child escaping from the mental hospital and going on a killing rampage on Halloween night. Laurie Strode (who SPOILER turns out to be his baby sister) played by the wonderful and original scream queen, Jamie Lee Curtis is his main target. They just don't make movies like Halloween anymore.

As for the remake, I love the re-imagining of it. I love how Rob Zombie brought in the back story of Michael and showed a new side of him while also keeping the spirit of the original film. But Scout Taylor Compton as Laurie Strode's screaming and whining makes me want to strangle her.  Both in my opinion are must watches on Halloween. Though I DO favor watching the original on Halloween night.

Rob Zombie has a horror movie coming out called 31 and I absolutely can not wait to see it!

Nightmare Before Christmas

This is Halloween, this is Halloween.

Okay, let's be real. How can we talk about Halloween movies and NOT include this classic??? I have watched Nightmare Before Christmas ever since I was a baby. What's great about this movie is you can watch it for two holidays...which I make sure to do. Jack Skellington is one of the most well known symbols of Halloween in Pop Culture. Tim Burton is a mastermind for Halloween, almost all of his movies are perfect for the season. It doesn't feel like Halloween to me without this film and I just wish I could visit Halloween town. Fuck Edward and Bella, I want to be Jack and Sally. Tim Burton is coming out with a sequel to Beetlejuice (YAAASSSS), though I'm not sure how long it will be until it comes out.

Some other movies I love watching for Halloween time include The Conjuring, the Chucky movies (save for maybe Seed of Chucky. That movie was a train wreak), Evil Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street and Ginger Snaps. What are your favorite Halloween movies? Comment and let me know. Until next time!

Asthma Awareness & My Story

Hi everyone! I know it's been a while since I've updated. This is going to be a serious post, but fear not I promise you will be getting a fun post tomorrow!

I wanted to bring some awareness to a disease that I struggle with and share my story. I know a lot of you on twitter see me bitch about my lungs from time to time, it's finally time to explain why.  Asthma is a common disease but most people don't really know what it is, or how much it sucks. You're probably wondering why I'm randomly bringing this topic up. What sparked this post was something that happened Thursday of last week. I had a bad asthma attack after pushing myself too hard in a work out. That was followed by another, smaller attack on Friday night. I'm still feeling the effects of it and trying to recover from it.

So what is asthma? Asthma is a common chronic lung disease that millions of people have. There is no cure for it but there are ways to treat it. It can last just through childhood or for a few years or even for a person's entire lifetime. Unfortunately, I've been dealing with it for most of my life and probably always will.  When a person has asthma, their bronchial tubes (aka their airway) become inflamed, narrow and swell when they have an attack. Extra mucus is produced as well, which as you can imagine this all makes it hard to breathe.

Here is a comparison to show you what a normal bronchial tube looks like and what one affected by asthma looks like:

Here's another view so you can get a better idea:

Yeah, it sucks.

There are certain triggers from allergens, air temperature and exertion that can set off an attack. It varies from person to person. The severity of it also varies. Some people get asthma so bad that they become hospitalized or even pass out. Others like my case are usually easily controlled.

So what is my asthma story? To start with, I have really shitty lungs. When I was about 6 years old I had a bad case of pneumonia. It was really sudden and surprising. It was the end of summer and I was on vacation in Vermont with my parents. Suddenly I became really sick and was vomiting like crazy, so they rushed me home to my doctor. From there I was hospitalized. I was then diagnosed with a lung disease called Emphysema. Emphysema is a type of lung disease classified as COPD (or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). It damages the alveoli (air sacs) in the lungs. Because of that, my body wasn't getting the oxygen it needed and it was difficult to breathe. My right lung also had a small hole in it that was leaking fluid so that had to be patched up in surgery along with a Lung Volume reduction surgery. The doctors pretty much scraped my lungs and removed wedges of damaged lung tissue.

Emphysema is most commonly caused by smoking. My parents were heavy smokers that smoked around me all the time as a kid. They continued to smoke around me despite doctors and surgeons warnings until my dad died when I was 18, and when my mom quit smoking when I was 21. 21 years of heavy secondhand smoke can wreak havoc on your lungs. So please if you smoke and have children or nieces or nephews do not smoke around them. You can cause serious and life long damage.

I honestly don't know a ton about emphysema. I recently started doing research because I was wondering if my illness as a child was still affecting me and my parents weren't too concerned about it after I recovered. No one even told me what it was, just that it made me really sick and I had to have lung surgery because of it. It turns out there is no cure for Emphysema and apparently I still have it and always will. But there are ways to treat it and live with it.

I should mention that typically people don't get Emphysema until they're in their 50s/60s, even in their 40s. It's very rare to be diagnosed with it before 25 let alone as a child. So I'm 22 with the lungs of an old lady. Yay me.
I have asthma as a result of the emphysema. My main triggers are cold air, being sick and major exertion. Winters are absolute hell for me, the cold air makes it so I can't breathe every time I leave the house. When I catch a cold it is usually 10 times worse because my asthma complicates it.

Growing up I was stuck using a Nebulizer, which is a machine that emits a vapor with medication that you breathe in. I had to have breathing treatments from it so often that we had to buy a machine.

Yup, that's a variation of the machine. It sucks having to use one but they do help.

I was less reliant on it as I grew older so my parents got rid of it. But now, every once in a while or when I have a bad cold or attack I have to go to my doctor's office for a treatment.

As a kid I also had to take Advair Diskus, which is a Fluctonase/Salmeterol inhaled powder along with another inhaler. It basically was an inhaled steroid to help my lungs. Now, I only use my Proair HFA Albuterol Sulfate rescue inhaler when I feel symptoms coming on or when they persist.

I have never had an asthma attack bad enough to hospitalize me but I nearly have. When the purple wedding happened on Game of Thrones (I'll be nice and not spoil it for anyone), I became so excited that I had an asthma attack. It was the worst one of my life. I honestly probably should have gone to the hospital but I turned out alright! I coughed like crazy and could barely breathe for a week. I got few hours of sleep each night because it was impossible for me to lie down and still be able to breathe. I would wake up in the middle of the night nearly chocking on coughs. Yeah, that was a real blast.

It typically takes me between a few days to a week to recover from an attack. It depends on the severity of the attack and if I have any aftershocks. An aftershock is what I call a smaller asthma attack as a result of the bigger one. When I have an asthma attack, I have a very hard time breathing and cough like crazy. My chest becomes tight and my lungs feel irritated. It has gotten to the point of me feeling faint before but I've never fainted from one. Sometimes they give me dizzy spells, but a lot of that also has to due with the exhaustion I get as a result of asthma. I usually keep my inhaler in close proximity at all times just in case.

After an attack, during what I call the recovery period I continue to feel the effects from it for at least a few days. My chest will still feel tight and I will have issues breathing sometimes. I'll be wheezy and coughing. Asthma attacks always leave me feeling tired and weak. If I exert myself physically in any way I become in danger of having another attack. Sometimes it is difficult to sleep because it'll be harder to sleep lying down. I also will have mucusy lungs and end up coughing a lot of that up ( I know, it's totally gross). Then there's the fun lung/chest/stomach muscle/back ache I sometimes end up with if I'm coughing really hard or often and from also breathing in more deeply to prevent coughing. Honestly it leaves me feeling pretty horrible. To help speed up the recovery, I try to rest a lot and not do much of anything as well as drink lots of water and use my inhaler.

For the past few years I have felt like my asthma attacks have worsened and become more frequent. But for now, they're controlled fairly easily.

Anyway I hope that this post educated everyone on the seriousness of asthma. If you have a loved one with this disease I feel it's important to educate yourself so you can help them if needed. It also helps to be understanding of it. I know my family doesn't always understand and insists that there is nothing wrong with me when I'm coughing and feeling like shit. If you suspect you could have asthma, get tested. If you have asthma, always keep a form of treatment nearby. Don't be stupid.

To end this on a good note, this video is my new favorite thing xD. [Here's a link in case you can't see the embedded video www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbdvogFyZZM ]Keep an eye out for tomorrow's much more fun post!

RIP Wes Craven

Hello, my dears! Sorry for lack of posts lately, I have been so absorbed in working on my book that I keep forgetting to post! I've been spending all of my energy working on it but I am loving every second of it! Not only have I been learning a lot through my research for it but I've also been going through some self discovery and getting more in touch with my witchy roots.

And now onto the post.

It is with a heavy heart that I must share that Wes Craven passed away on Sunday. Wes Craven is an iconic film maker, he is famous for creating and directing Scream and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Some of his other movies include My Soul To Take, Red Eye, The Hills Have Eyes and The People Under The Stairs. His specialty was horror.

Wes Craven was my favorite horror director and film maker. He is my 2nd all time favorite film maker after Tim Burton, of course. Not only because he created my favorite horror film, A Nightmare on Elm Street but because of his amazing story telling. He knew how to tell a story and not just that, he knew how to shake things up and instill fear into his audience. I was extremely saddened to hear of his passing, I couldn't believe it! I literally cried.  It devastates me to know that his brilliant mind is no longer with us and that we will never have another movie made by him.

Without Mr. Craven, I never would have become the horror fan that I am today. The very first horror film I remember seeing was Scream. I was about 3 years old and my aunt was watching it while babysitting me. This is actually one of my earliest memories. I remember seeing Ghost Face and being confused as to if I should be afraid or in awe. Growing up I would continue to watch horror movies with my aunt, but she would make me turn away at super scary or  gory parts.

Being a kid in the 90s at Halloween you saw an abundance of boys masquerading as Ghost Face while trick r treating. The boys in my neighborhood being no exception. At one point I became horrified of Halloween masks. The boys in the neighborhood knew this; they would chase and follow me around on Halloween to scare me. This fear sort of pushed me more towards horror.

When I started getting back into horror in my pre-teen years I was sleeping over a friend's house and we watched Freddy Vs. Jason with her sister. I enjoyed every minute of it. I didn't feel an ounce of fear, but I was excited. This was the first time that I had seen a Freddy Krueger movie. I loved watching him, he was unlike anything I had ever seen in horror before. Unique and creepy yet hilarious. I craved more.

So one late one night when the original Nightmare on Elm Street was on TV, I jumped at the chance to watch it. I was totally enthralled! I fell in love with this movie. It was just so awesome! Especially Freddy. It was such an amazing yet terrifying concept: a villain with knives for fingers that can kill you in your sleep.

It immediately became my favorite and I sought out to see every Freddy movie that I could get my hands on.

Soon I found myself having some dreams with Freddy in it. But unlike most people I wasn't scared, it was a great dream for me. Once in a while I will have dreams of a zombie apocalypse where I'm fighting zombies and I wake up with a smile on my face. It isn't scary for me, it's badass! It's like being in my own horror movie but without someone trying to kill me in real life.

From there Wes inspired me to try to make my own horror films and write stories. Though it never went anywhere, I wrote an entire screenplay and even had auditions for some of the roles. He also contributed to my inspiration for special effects makeup. I wanted, and still do to recreate things from his movies. Whenever I get a certain ingredient I can create prosthetics to look like Freddy Krueger burns and I absolutely can not wait!

Then came My Soul To Take. Parts of this film were actually filmed in my town. I was so mad that I missed the chance to meet my hero! Though this isn't my favorite of his movies (but I do like it) this one has some special meaning for me. One of the filming locations and major piece of scenery in the film was the place where my dad proposed to my mom and it also is a place where we threw some of my dad's ashes.

And of course, when Scream 4 came out I was ecstatic! Though I couldn't see it in the theater, I begged my mom to buy me it when it came out on DVD, as soon as it came out.

Thank you, Wes Craven. Thank you for the wonderful movies and characters you created. Thank you for the fear and the memories. And of course thank you for inspiring me as well as countless film makers. The horror industry would be a vastly different place if it weren't for your visions and creations. Rest in peace.

Xoxo

Stay creepy
