Sailor Moon Season 1 Part 2 DVD Set Review

Since this was voted for in my poll to figure out my next anime post, here it is! Thank you to the person that voted!

This is the second and final part of season 1. It looks cohesive with the packaging for part 1, all pink cute and sparkly. On the side of the case, it shows a picture of this season's transformation compact. I do wish that Viz sold even separately a box like they do with the Bluray to house both volumes together. It would be much easier for us DVD only people when the Sailor Moon releases stack up.

There are 3 dics in this set, the same as the first. There aren't a lot of features. I wish that Viz would include an extra disc with all of the bonus features that they put on the Bluray but they probably just want you to spend the extra money on the Bluray for those features. The only feature on this set is a shorter version of the Moon Day feature.

As for quality, it has improved greatly when compared to set 1!! The picture is full screen, in set 1 the picture was a box in the middle of the screen. Enough people must have complained about it, so they set it right. I haven't noticed any glitches like I did with set 1. In set 1, there were quite a few noticeable glitches in the video. Luckily, I'm happy enough just being able to own it so I don't complain as much as other fans.

The picture is remastered and the sound is good. All of the original music including openings and closings are in here. You will not hear any of the English dub songs from the 90s here! For me, it's so weird to not hear My Only Love. The original Japanese OST is used, not the music used in the English dub. I actually never realized before how much different the music in the background was in the 90s dub compared to the original Japanese version!

As with the first set, the new dub is fantastic! I love the new cast. Stephanie Sheh is perfect as Usagi and Michellle Ruff is the perfect Luna. Cherami Leigh debuts as Sailor Venus in this set and I am loving her! Her voice suits our Minako so much more than the 90s dub voice. Johnny Yong Bosch is fantastic as Artemis. I can't forget to mention that I LOVE Robbie Daymond as Mamoru! His voice is swoon worthy.

I actually like Zoisite now that they made him a man as intended and his voice doesn't annoy me anymore. The scenes with him and Kunzite have so much more emotion and meaning now that they are done right.

Overall this set is fantastic! I am proud of it! Viz really did a great job and fixed most of the things not only wrong with the first set but totally fixed everything wrong with the 90s dub. My favorite episode of Sailor Moon of all time is episode 34, "The Shining Silver Crystal, The Moon Princess Appears". When watching it on this set, I was literally in tears. Everything was so perfect and they made it everything the original dub should have been.

I hope all of my fellow moonies enjoyed this set. I know a good chunk of this fandom just loves to nitpick things but let me say this, we should all be happy that we have our beloved show back at all. So be thankful and grateful for what we have. I can't wait for the next set to be released. It's going to be part 1 of Sailor Moon R and let me tell you...I LOVE my Spectre sisters and ChibiUsa! I can't wait to see them in all of their re-dubbed glory.

I also wonder if Viz will release the Sailor Moon R movie along with Sailor Moon R, or if they'll wait until all seasons are released to release the movies. I'm unsure of the Japanese title, but The Promise of the Rose is my favorite Sailor Moon movie. To say I need it in my possession is an understatement.

Now if only we could get a redo of the live action series...who remembers that? I just remember it being really cheesy. I still loved it *^*. Seriously though where's my live action Sailor Moon movie????
